Teachers at Insight Meditation Adelaide

Zoe
Zoe has been teaching and mentoring meditation and movement practices since 2006 after beginning to practice in 2001.
For Zoe, working with people over time and witnessing real-life change and integration is a sacred reward. She brings a passion for embodied mindfulness to her teaching, gently creating space for people to explore and find their own path. Zoe draws on the shared wisdom of a group to support rich, collective learning experiences.
Zoe is a certified dharma teacher through James Baraz, co-founder of Spirit Rock Meditation Centre. Zoe is also a Senior Yoga Teacher and Yoga Teacher trainer and has been training yoga and meditation teachers since 2014. Zoe mentors in the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program offered by Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield and offers spiritual care to those at end of life in aged care. She is slowly completing her social work degree.

Suzanne
Suzanne first connected to Buddhism through the Tibetan/Mahayana traditions of Buddha House in 2000. She has since moved towards the teachings of secular Buddhism. Suzanne takes advantage of the online study courses offered by Bodhi College (UK) and Insight meditation groups in the US, as well as taking occasional silent retreats, mainly in Australia.
Suzanne is Emeritus Professor of Sociology and Gender Studies at the University of South Australia. She was president of Sakyadhita Australia (Daughters of the Buddha) 2016-2019 and most recently participated in a tour of Buddhist sites in China, In the Footsteps of the Ancestors with the Buddhist teachers, Stephen and Martine Batchelor. She values the sharing of experience and friendship within sanghas, whether via zoom or in person.

Danielle
I began meditating in my twenties, drawn to the quiet strength and inner clarity it offered. Over time, this practice became a deep source of support and belonging—and now, it’s a joy to share it with others.
In 2021, I completed Level 1 Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction teacher training with the Mindfulness Training Institute of Australasia. In 2023, I completed a two-year teacher training in awareness and compassion-based meditation with Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield through the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program.
My teaching is grounded in the belief that mindfulness and Buddhist teachings should be accessible to all minds and bodies. I currently lead a weekly mindfulness and wellbeing session, Positive Minds, at an aged care home. There, I draw on nature, sound, breath, creativity and connection to help people feel less isolated, reconnect with their inner resources, support each other, and experience a sense of wholeness.
Wholeness and belonging are the heart of my teaching. I’ve found deep benefit in the gentle strength of the heart practices—compassion, loving kindness, joy—as well as in learning how to rest and soften into the present. My hope is that practice can be a refuge, and a reminder: we are already enough.
Whether you’re new to meditation or have an established practice, you’re warmly welcome here.
What to expect
Each Thursday evening, we gather at the warm, welcoming Hatha Yoga Shala on 172 Hutt Street, Adelaide. The space is well-equipped with cushions, bolsters, and blankets to support your comfort—andfeel free to bring your own if you’d prefer.
The evening follows a gentle rhythm: we begin with a grounding meditation or Buddhist chant, followed by a talk on Buddhism, Dharma, and meditation. Then we sit together in a guided meditation or a shared silence, closing with a short Q&A.
These teachings are offered in the tradition of dana—a Pali word meaning generosity.
Dana is a way of practicing generosity: supporting the continuation of teachings like these, and honouring the time, care, and training that goes into sharing them.
